Customize Your HubSpot Setup: Renaming Default Objects in Minutes

May 27, 2025

Make HubSpot Speak Your Language

Your HubSpot setup should reflect how your team actually talks about your business. If you're tired of seeing "Contacts" when your organization calls them "Humans," "Patients," "Members," or anything else, we've got good news. You can rename HubSpot's default objects with just a couple clicks. It's a small customization that makes a big difference in how intuitive your CRM feels.

Why Rename Your Default Objects?

When your HubSpot terminology matches your business language, a few things happen. Your team adopts the system faster because it feels native to how they already work. New hires get up to speed quicker when the CRM speaks their language. And honestly, it just feels better when your tools work the way you think, not the other way around.

Here's How to Rename Any Default Object

Step 1: Access Your Settings

Head into HubSpot and click the gear icon to open settings. This is your command center for all customizations.

Step 2: Find the Object Library

On the left sidebar, scroll down until you find the Object Library. This is where all your default objects live and wait to be customized.

Step 3: Select Your Object

Choose whichever default object you want to rename. This could be Contacts, Companies, Deals, Tickets, or any other standard HubSpot object. Click on it to open the options.

Step 4: Click Details

Once you've selected your object, click the Details button. This opens the customization panel where the magic happens.

Step 5: Edit the Object Name

Now here's the important part. You'll see fields for both singular and plural forms. Enter your singular name first. For example, if you want to rename Contacts to Humans, you'd type "Human" in the singular field.

Step 6: Add the Plural Form

Next, add the plural version in the plural field. Using our example, that'd be "Humans." HubSpot will use this plural form throughout your account whenever it displays the object in a list or collection context.

Step 7: Save Your Changes

Hit save and you're done. That's it. Your object is now renamed across your entire HubSpot instance.

Which Objects Can You Rename?

You've got flexibility here. The most commonly renamed default objects include:

  • Contacts
  • Companies
  • Deals
  • Tickets

Basically, any default HubSpot object is fair game for customization.

The Real Lesson: Execution Beats Education

Here's something we believe deeply at Sidekick Strategies: knowing how to do something is great, but actually doing it is where transformation happens. You could read about renaming objects all day, but your CRM won't change until you take action. So go ahead and customize your setup today. Make HubSpot feel like home for your team. That's what being a Hub Hero is all about.
